FLEETING DAY FOR LUCAS IN ENGLISTOWN

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 18) -- Morgan Lucas was defeated in the first round for the second consecutive race mirroring his 2005 season with the same results. However, that was the end for the Lucas Oil Racing team as they found what has been stifling their performance at the 37th annual K&N Filters SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

"We found the gremlins that have been bugging us," said a relieved Lucas. "The car went from point A to point B and it didn't hurt the cylinder heads. It seems on our runs we've been fighting all year with that problem. We've been chasing the tune up trying to correct that problem. It was a situation we've overlooked and I'm glad they found it. We gave Doug Kalitta a good drag race, but in reality, no one likes to lose. The good thing is we had a really good run and it didn't hurt anything."

In Lucas' first round match up with Doug Kalitta, the 22-year old drag racing pilot ran the quarter-mile in an elapsed time of 4.701 seconds, 304.53 mph to Kalitta's winning time of 4.644 seconds, 324.67 mph.

With his first round loss, Lucas now finds himself tied with Tony Schumacher in the NHRA Top Fuel points standings with 560 points.

Lucas now heads to St. Louis to complete the three back-to-back-to back races and reach the halfway point of the NHRA season for the running of the 10th annual O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway International Raceway on June 23 -- 25.
