Ashley Struggles in front of Hometown Crowd

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - Throw any idea of hometown advantage out the door for Mike Ashley, driver of the Torco Race Fuels Dodge Charger R/T. Under clear skies and in front of record crowds, Ashley struggled to get down the quarter-mile at Old Bridge Township raceway Park in the first two qualifying sessions of the ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals Friday.

"It's frustrating," Ashley said. "We're having problems with our clutch and we just have to find it."

First round, the Charger ran strong until 1000 feet, where the tires hazed and the car lost power, delivering a 5.017/257.04. Second round, the car was again on a strong pass but lost power about half-track, slowing to a 5.166/225.79. Ashley currently sits in the No. 17 position, just outside the field.

Undaunted, Ashley said, "I'm confident - no, I guarantee that we will be in the show tomorrow. Brian Corradi [Crew chief] and the guys will get a handle on things, and we'll run really well tomorrow.

Qualifying continues in the ProCare Rx NHRA SuperNationals Saturday with sessions scheduled for 1:00 and 3:30 p.m. Eliminations are scheduled for 11 a.m. Sunday, June 24.
