DIXON RACES TO NO. 7 SPOT FRIDAY AT ENGLISHTOWN

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 16, 2006) Two-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Larry Dixon, who is looking to capture his sixth straight Father's Day victory on Sunday afternoon, blasted his Miller Lite dragster to a pass of 4.612-seconds to claim the No. 7 provisional qualifying position Friday at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.

Dixon, a three-time winner at the storied New Jersey facility, used a tune-up from crew chief Don Bender to drive the Miller Lite/Lucas Oil rail to a performance of 4.612 seconds at 325.45 mph to record the seventh quickest pass of the opening day of qualifying at the 37th annual K&N Filters Supernationals. On his first run of the weekend, Dixon's Miller Lite dragster lost traction and slowed to a 9.838-second effort.

"On the first run, the car shook the tires," Dixon said. "We were the first pair of cars out for the second session and being in that position, you have no cars to judge off of. You just need to get down the track. Donnie (Bender) and the guys put a great setup and the car got down the track and got us solidly in the field. For the moment, we're pretty happy with that."

Dixon looks to move higher in the 16-car Top Fuel order when qualifying continues at 1 and 3:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon at Raceway Park.
