ENGLISHTOWN, N.J.-- Ron Krisher will lead the Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel field as the No. 1 seed for the lucrative special event May 19 during the 32nd annual Matco Tools SuperNationals presented by Racing Champions, May 17-20 at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. The $2 million race is the eighth of 24 events in the $50 million NHRA Winston Drag Racing Series.
A purse of $76,000 is available for the eight drivers competing in the Duel. The winner of the 17th annual Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel will earn $50,000. The runner-up will earn $10,000, the two semi-finalists $3,000 each and the four first-round finishers $2,500 apiece.
Krisher, from Warren, Ohio, qualified No. 1 at four of the 23 NHRA national events that drivers could earn Duel points. It is Krisher's first career appearance in the Duel.
The $145,000 Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel showcases the eight best Pro Stock qualifiers during a 23 race span between the 2000 FRAM Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway and 2001 Advance Auto Parts NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway. Besides the $76,000 available in the Duel, Holley has awarded $69,000 in bonuses to quick Pro Stock qualifiers throughout the Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel series.
Drivers accumulated points during qualifying at those events, and a $3,000 bonus was awarded to the No. 1 qualifier at each race.
This year's Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel field features five past winners. Krisher's first round opponent, Bruce Allen, has two wins and four runner-up finishes in the Duel. Two-time defending Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel champion Jeg Coughlin will face nine-time Duel participant Mark Pawuk in the opening round. Warren Johnson, who has won the event twice, his last coming in 1995, will pair against Richie Stevens, a three-time Duel veteran. Two other past winners, Kurt Johnson (1998, 1994) and Jim Yates (1997), will meet in the first round.
Holley Pro Stock Dominator Duel rounds are scheduled for 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on May 19.
