Maryland Driver Rebounds Well after Slippery Qualifying Start

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J., June 20, 2008 -- Forced to be the first Pro Stock car to run in Friday's qualifying wrap-up session for Sunday's Lucas Oil SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, Justin Humphreys was undaunted. The RaceRedi Motorsports Dodge hit the finish in 6.627 seconds at 207.88 mph and lifted him into the provisional eighth starting berth.

And it was the quickest run of his 35-race NHRA career in only the third race in the Dodge with Allen Johnson horsepower.

"That wasn't a bad run considering we were first out," said Humphreys, of Monrovia, Md. "We didn't know what the track would take. We couldn't get after the tune-up because of that. There was definitely a little bit left. We have something to work with and we can fix it and make pretty good laps on Saturday."

On his first run, slippery track conditions negated the effort and Humphreys shut off early to a 7.647 at 134.15 mph. His 6.627 one of three run during the session.

Two more runs are on tap Saturday to set the 16-car lineup.
