World champion Arana ready for big-time party in Englishtown
ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 7) -- Defending NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle champion Hector Arana knows that when the 41st annual United Association NHRA SuperNationals rolls into Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, a good time isn't far behind.
"There's a large Hispanic population in that area of the country and I'm looking forward to going there," Arana said. "We're going to be having a lot of Latin food on Thursday, and I'm probably going to be gaining five pounds.
"It's going to cost a lot more for me to take the extra five pounds off the bike instead of going on a diet, but you know what? We're going to take it off the bike."
Arana, who rides the Lucas Oil Buell, still holds a commanding lead in the Full Throttle points after his semifinal finish Sunday in Chicago.
It's been quite a year for Arana since last year's E-town event. Just before the 2009 race, Arana asked his Lucas Oil Racing teammate Larry Morgan, a noted engine builder and driver, to give his powerplants a onceover. The dividends began to pay off immediately with Arana earning his first No. 1 of the season at Englishtown.
From there Hector started winning in bunches and cruised to the championship a few months later when the season wrapped up in California.
"Without Larry, none of the good things would have happened to me," Arana said.
A gregarious fellow who is easy with a smile, Arana said he can't wait to get back in front of his supporters in Englishtown and show off some of that horsepower.
"I'm looking forward to seeing all those fans," Arana said. "It's a fun place to go to. Those fans want to party all the time. I love it."
The 41st annual United Association NHRA SuperNationals runs from June 11-13 at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park.
