ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 18, 2005) -- Last weekend Doug Herbert and the Snap-on Tools dragster made four quick passes down the track in qualifying but lost in the first round. This weekend Herbert is looking for the opposite results: He wants his best run of the weekend to come during a winning round of eliminations.

This weekend, Herbert would gladly accept his 10th place qualifying effort if it meant earning a handful of round victories on Sunday in return. Herbert's 4.600-second pass at 325.85 mph was the best in four rounds of qualifying for the 36th annual K&N Filters NHRA Supernationals.

"Last weekend we had our best pass of the event during qualifying," Herbert said. "That's not when you want to peak at an event and that's not what we work for. We got down the track three times this weekend but we need to make our quickest pass of the event on Sunday, starting with the first round."

Herbert will face Dave Grubnic who went 4.519 at 323.66 for the No. 7 qualifying position.

"The best thing about Sunday is that one good pass can make qualifying obsolete," Herbert said. "We need to have a sense of urgency and get after it in the first round. That would be a great way to start the day and it would go a long way toward getting this team fired up about race day again."

Herbert was the runner-up to Joe Amato at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in 1999.

The NHRA POWERade Series starts pro qualifying continues Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. before final eliminations start at 11 a.m. Sunday.
