Herbert anxious to meet high expectations
ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 17, 2005) -- Doug Herbert has high expectations when it comes to racing. He knows he has the Snap-on Tools to get the job done. He knows he has the crew to get the job done. He is just waiting for the entire puzzle to come together.
Herbert drove his Snap-on Tools dragster to the No. 10 spot in the Top Fuel qualifying order Friday for the 36th annual K&N Filters NHRA Supernationals.
"The first time we went out on the track we smoked the tires," Herbert said. "So we got a little behind from the beginning. Our second pass of the day made for a good starting point and now we just need to take that information, hope for great weather Saturday and go even quicker.
"We're qualified and that's always the first goal. Now we need to improve our position and get ready to race on Sunday."
Herbert was the runner-up to Joe Amato at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in 1999. He has been close, but not close enough.
"I have real high expectations when it comes to racing and the being No. 10 qualifier and being the runner-up in the past just isn't enough," Herbert said. "The entire racing community is full of guys just like me, doing everything we can to make sure that we do our best and meet all of our goals.
"We got down the track on the second pass and hopefully we learn a lot from our last pass and regroup and come back our here and produce some quicker times."
