Final qualifying ladder finds Chip Ellis in No. 4 position

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. (June 18, 2005) -- For the 10th time in 10 NHRA races, Chip Ellis placed the G Squared/S&S Buell in the top half of the Pro Stock Motorcycle field.

Ellis' best qualifying pass of 7.112 seconds at 185.10 mph placed the Americus, Ga., driver in the No. 4 position on the final ladder for the NHRA K&N Filters SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown, N.J.

Ellis, an NHRA Auto Club of Southern California Road to the Future (Rookie of the Year) candidate this year, joined G Squared Motorsports, owned by George Bryce and George Smith, at Indy in 2004, running the final four races of the year. This is the sixth of 15 races for Pro Stock Motorcycles on the 2005 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

"Being firmly in the field, we tried some stuff today to see how this S&S-powered Buell would react," said Ellis. "We're putting in our best S&S engine for eliminations tomorrow. Today was to try things; tomorrow we'll try to double up."

Ellis begins his quest for his second consecutive Pro Stock Motorcycle title on Sunday with eliminations for all classes getting underway at 11 a.m. In the opening round he will be paired against Angelle Sampey. Sampey qualified No. 13 with an elapsed time of 7.182 seconds. Time is local Englishtown, N.J. time -- Eastern Time (ET) -- and subject to change at anytime.
