EARLVILLE, Iowa - After winning the last two Division 5 races competed at Tri-State Raceway in Earlville, Iowa, NHRA Federal Mogul Funny Car racer Randy Fleming lost a tough matchup with Kirk Williams in the first round of this past weekend's Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series event there.

Fleming, from Independence, Mo., qualified the Fleming Motorsports/InsideFMRacing.com Pontiac Firebird fourth in the eight car field with a 5.946 second elapsed time at 247.25 mph. In Sunday's first round, Williams stepped up to a 5.929 at 242.91 mph to defeat Fleming's 6.020 at 235.84 mph.

"I got a little distracted and lost my concentration," said Fleming. "I didn't have the best light, and got beat by Kirk Williams. Our Tom Conway tune-up was close to what we needed to win, but we just fell a little bit short."

Undaunted, Fleming and team plan to take some time off to regroup, and refocus their efforts for the future.

"We're going to sit out for a little while," stated Fleming. "We're going to do some maintenance to the car, and we'll be ready when we come back. Right now, we're not sure when that will be."
