One of the greatest drag racers of all time and International Motorsports Hall of Fame member Bob Glidden died last Sunday.

Over the course of his 25 years in Pro Stock, Glidden won 85 NHRA events and 10 championships. That victory tally puts him third in professional class wins behind only John Force and Warren Johnson.

Among Glidden’s consecutive streaks, he scored five straight Pro Stock titles, 1985-’89, nine straight NHRA races in 1979, 23 straight events as No. 1 qualifier and 50 straight elimination round wins.

In 1994 he was inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, and 11 years later he made it into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame.

In 2001, he was voted into P4 on the list of Top 50 racers from NHRA's first 50 years.

Glidden was married to Etta who served as his crew chief, and their sons Rusty and Billy were also team members.

Peter Clifford, president of NHRA, said: “Everyone in the NHRA community is saddened to learn the news of Bob’s passing. He was a true competitor who left a lasting legacy of excellence both on and off the track.

“Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest condolences are with the Glidden family at this difficult time.”
