RIVAS QUALIFIES SEVENTH FOR DENVER
DENVER, Colo., July 12, 2008- Chris Rivas rode the G2 Motorsports Drag Specialties S&S Cycle V-Twin Pro Stock Motorcycle to seventh qualifying position with a 7.350 e.t at 180.48-mph for tomorrow's 29th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals here at Bandimere Speedway.
The 41-year-old Fresno, Calif. native progressively improved his performance throughout the four qualifying sessions, confirming Rivas's comment yesterday about heading in the right direction. During yesterday's two qualifying sessions, Rivas ran a 7.621 e.t. at 174.64-mph and 7.431 e.t at 177.98-mph, respectively. For the third qualifying lap he ran an elapsed time of 7.362 at 180.72-mph.
Crew Chief George Smith said yesterday that the team lacked data for the new clutch at this altitude, but that with every run down the track, the team gathered valuable information.
"It took us all four qualifying passes to get the tune up right," . explained Smith Chris Rivas further explained Smith's comments by . clarifying what happened .
"We were very aggressive with the tune ups which caused the motorcycle to roll forward and prematurely start the timers."
Rivas will run against Angelle Sampey, the number 10 qualifier with an elapsed time of 7.418 at 180.12-mph, during the first round of eliminations tomorrow. The G2 Motorsports Drag Specialties S&S Cycle V-Twin team was positive about its chances tomorrow as the team had its strategy in place.
"For tomorrow, we will soften our tune up," said Rivas. "I feel extremely optimistic about tomorrow. We did not get a good reading due to the aggressive tune ups, but tomorrow's a new day."
"We're ready for tomorrow: the class is competitive and it will be very exciting," commented Smith. Tomorrow's 29th annual Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals is the eighth pro stock motorcycle race in the 2008 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Season's Countdown to 10. After Denver, there are four races until the
Countdown to One playoff style championship begins.
