Denver, CO, July 17, 2002 - What does the expression Western Swing mean to you?

Does it take you back to a lazy summer sunset from a front porch view?

Maybe it reminds you of two-steppin' with your better half in the neon glow of a honky-tonk dance floor.

For NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series fans and competitors, Western Swing means a three-week, three-race endurance test that begins in Denver, Col. this weekend at the Mopar Parts Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, July 18-21. The strenuous tour stops in Seattle, Wash. and Sonoma, Calif. to complete the swing.

Doug Kalitta and the Mac Tools/Kalitta Motorsports Top Fuel dragster team are eager to soar into Bandimere's winner's circle and set the table for a swing sweep. Kalitta knows that even though Team Kalitta has had a less than stellar first half of the 2002 season, they are more than capable of launching a winning streak at the high altitude speedway.

"Bandimere is such a unique place to race," Kalitta said. "The scenery is beautiful, but race cars have to almost gasp for air in the high altitude. Connie (Kalitta, Crew Chief) and Jim (Oberhofer, Co-Crew Chief) are confident that our Mac Tools dragster has a tune-up set to attack the mountain. Hopefully we will head to Seattle with our first win this season."

Oberhofer said, "We have unfinished business up on that mountain. We ran strong there last year, but took home a runner-up finish. Our Mac Tools dragster team wants to go back this year to finish what we started and take the trophy."
