DENVER (July 15) - After the second straight day of 90-degree temperatures at Bandimere Speedway, Larry Dixon and the Don Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite Dragster's pass of 4.794 seconds posted on Friday night secured the No. 4 position for Sunday's elimination round at the Mopar Parts Mile High Nationals.

Dixon's first lap of the day proved what many of the top fuel pilots have stated about the condition of the quarter mile track's right lane as the poor conditions resulted in a loss of traction for Dixon and an elapsed time of 6.330 seconds at 136.93 mph. The Miller Lite/Raybestos backed car would get another attempt in the more favorable left lane in its final qualifying run, which resulted in Dixon's second 4.831 second run of the weekend. Dixon opened the weekend with a 4.831-second lap on Friday afternoon.

Ultimately, it would be Dixon's time of 4.794 seconds that would earn him the No. 4 seed and a first round match up with Joe Hartley, marking the second time the two drivers have met this season. Dixon won the only previous meeting between the two drivers with his second round victory at the Sears Craftsman Nationals (Madison, IL).

The Indianapolis driver's best career effort at Denver was a pair of semifinal finishes, first in 1996 and then again in 1999. His best qualifying position in five years of competition was his No. 3 seeding in 1996. Sunday's elimination round begins at 11 AM and will be televised by ESPN 2.
