McClenathan No. 2 in Denver

MORRISON, Colo. (July 19, 2003) - Just as he did at the last race in St. Louis, Cory McClenathan, driver of the Darrell Gwynn Racing NY Yankees/Berryman Products dragster, saved the best for last. His run of 4.798 seconds placed the Riverside, Calif. driver in the No. 2 position as qualifying ended at the NHRA Mopar Mile-High Nationals.

Entering the final qualifying session, McClenathan, who was runner-up at this event last year, was No. 1 on the qualifying ladder. POWERade Top Fuel point leader took over the top stop with a pass of 4.790 seconds with McClenathan happy with second.

"I've always said you give those guys (Dixon's team) enough runs and they'll get it figured," said McClenathan. "I always surprise myself by the way I run on the hill and to think over the last few years I done it with a number of different crew chiefs. The guys led by crew chief John Stewart did a great job during qualifying. We've got a great car for tomorrow and I'm excited about that."

By finishing second, McClenathan will square off against Mr. Magoo - Don Sosenka, who qualified 15th with a pass of 5.959 seconds at 199.46 mph, in tomorrow's eliminations.
