G Squared S&S Buell and Chip Ellis advance to the semifinals
MORRISON, Colo. (July 17, 2005) -- Chip Ellis aboard the G Squared S&S Buell advanced to the semifinal round of the 26th annual NHRA Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Speedway, near Denver.
In the opening round of eliminations, Ellis was paired against Steve Johnson. The S&S-powered Buell was too much for Johnson as Ellis raced to the win light in 7.491 seconds. Ellis now holds a three to one edge in career meetings between the pair.
Round two found Ellis against Matt Guidera, both on S&S-powered Buells. Ellis' power on the top end took him to the finish line first. Ellis turned the Bandimere Speedway quarter-mile in 7.473 seconds, the quickest run of round two. Guidera trailed slightly, running a 7.539.
In the semifinals, it was Suzuki against Suzuki on one side of the ladder and S&S-powered Buell against S&S-powered Buell on the other side.
Ellis on one of the Buells took on Ryan Schnitz on the other Buell. Antron Brown on a Suzuki was matched against Craig Treble on the other Suzuki.
In the battle of S&S power plants, Schnitz turned back Ellis. It was an elapsed time of 7.563 seconds for Ellis and 7.504 second run for Schnitz.
Brown took a holeshot win over Treble. Gaining a .054 second advantage at the green, Brown's 7.561 second pass bettered Treble's 7.529.
S&S power prevailed in the final run as Ryan Schnitz overcame another excellent light by Brown to win the Pro Stock Motorcycle title.
After the event, George Smith, who along with George Bryce owns G Squared Motorsports, said, "We had a great weekend. The only thing that we would have liked to do that we didn't was get in the finals. But anytime you reach the semifinals you can walk away knowing that you did well.
"The S&S engines performed nicely. We did slow down in the semis and we're just now evaluating our data to determine what, if anything, cause our problem."
"Congratulation to Muzzy and Ryan Schnitz on their win, Ryan's second of the season. The have really got their S&S power plant going well right now."
