Taylor just misses win at Woodburn
WOODBURN, Ore. - NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Dennis Taylor made his fourth final in six races this year with a runner-up finish during this past weekend's Division 6 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event in Woodburn, Ore. Taylor took out Division 7 rival Doug Gordon in round one, but lost to Division 6 Champ Bucky Austin in the final.
Taylor, who runs his racing safety equipment company, Taylor Motorsports Products, in Anaheim, Calif., qualified his Plumbing Concepts backed Camaro third in the field with a 5.716 second elapsed time at 249.16 mph. In round one, he defeated Gordon with a 5.701 at 245.09 mph, and then took out Hank Coolidge in the semifinals with a 5.716 at 245.29 mph.
In the final, Taylor experienced tireshake and slowed to a 5.781 at 245.23 mph while Austin set low e.t. of the weekend with a 5.671 at 254.66 mph.
"I wish we could have got the win, but I must say I'm pleased with the weekend," said Taylor. "This was our first weekend out with our new associate sponsor, invigor8 energy drink, so to make it to the final for them and my other great sponsors like Plumbing Concepts, Valvoline, Pepsi, Mickey Thompson Tires, Metro Moulded Parts, Shaker Shirts, Ultimate Designs, Bear State Heat and Air, Adam's Polishes and Taylor Motorsport Products is a good outing."
"I can't say enough about how my Crew Chief Ora Vasquez and the crew have the car running," Taylor continued. "By making the final, we kept our goal of a top ten finish and Division 7 Championship alive. Not to mention taking out Gordon in the first round. That was a monster matchup. We just have to focus on continuing to go rounds, and the points will take care of themselves."
The runner-up placed Taylor fourth in national points and second in Division7 points. The next stop for the Plumbing Concepts backed team will be the Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., July 4th weekend.
