POMONA, Calif. - Still trying to ride the momentum of a late-season charge, Dennis Taylor and his Plumbing Concepts backed NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car team will be looking to pick up where they left off during this weekend's K&N Filters Winternationals in Pomona, Calif. Taylor just missed a win with a runner-up at the season closer last year at the same racetrack, and hopes to take it one step further this weekend with new tuner Ora Vasquez.
Taylor, who runs his racing safety equipment company Taylor Motorsports Products, just down the road in Anaheim, Calif., always considers Pomona a 'home game,' not only for the fact he lives just miles from the track, but its also the home race for many of his sponsors, including primary sponsor Plumbing Concepts.
"We always like running Pomona because it is right in our back yard," said Taylor. "We also get to get a lot of our sponsors out to the track, which works out well for them. On top of that, Pomona Raceway is one of the best racing surfaces in the country. We had a career outing here last year at the AAA Auto Club Finals, and we just hope to pick up where we left off."
"It's a very tough race to win, though. With the caliber of cars out here, any car that qualifies has a shot to win," Taylor continued.
Taylor and his team have their sights set on keeping the momentum up the entire season rather than just this weekend.
"We really turned things around last year," stated Taylor. "We not only want to do good this weekend, but we plan to make a hard charge for the Division 7 Championship and a top-ten finish. With the support of Plumbing Concepts, Valvoline, Pepsi, Mickey Thompson Tires, Metro Molded Parts, Shaker Shirts, Ultimate Designs, Bear State Heat and Air, Adam's Polishes and Taylor Motorsport Products and this team, I don't think we've ever been set for success like we are this year."
Qualifying begins on Thursday, with two more sessions on Friday. First round of eliminations will be ran on Saturday, with final eliminations concluding the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
