Taylor looking strong at hometown race

POMONA, Calif. - NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car ace Dennis Taylor and the Cooner Wire team are looking strong going into eliminations at their hometown event, the AAA Auto Club Finals at the famed Pomona Raceway. Taylor and new crew chief Ora Vasquez are currently qualified tenth in the quickest field in Top Alcohol Funny Car history.

Taylor, who runs his racing safety equipment company, Taylor Motorsports Products, just down the road in Anaheim, Calif., is very excited about the team's performance, running a career-best 5.701 second elapsed time in qualifying.

"We made three solid runs in qualifying," stated Taylor. "This is just a testament to my new tuner Ora Vasquez, who is taking over for Randy Goodwin who is back racing his own car now, and I wish him the best of luck. We always like to do good at the Pomona races because most of our sponsors are out here, especially all the great people at Cooner Wire. This is a super tough field, and to be qualified this strongly is an honor. Hopefully we can step it up into the 5.60's for the first round."

Taylor is scheduled to run veteran TAFC pilot Vern Moats in round one on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
