Wells looking to repeat last year's Vegas win

LAS VEGAS - Anytime you have a history of doing well in Las Vegas, the oddsmakers love you. Such is the case for defending four-time NHRA Division 5 Top Alcohol Dragster Champion David Wells. Wells has a history of success at 'The Strip' in Las Vegas, which hosts this weekend's SummitRacing.com Nationals. Wells won this event last year and made the finals here in 2001. Wells hopes to put his Blue Bunny Ice Cream/"Plain Vanilla" entry in the winner's circle once again.

Wells, from LeMars, Iowa, comes into the event off of an outing he would just as soon forget at the Mac Tools Gatornationals in Gainesville, Fla., three weeks ago. There Wells had a broken air line sideline him in round one. His team has worked hard to ensure no such bugs get them in Vegas.

"It really was a shame that air line busted," said Wells. "From everything we seen, the car was on its way to running a mid .30. We've went over the car pretty good the past few weeks so something like the CO2 line doesn't beat us again. It's supposed to be pretty warm up here this weekend, so hopefully that with the altitude will help to level things out for the blown cars."

When asked about his history at the track, Wells is quick to cite that doesn't get you anywhere on raceday.

"There's a couple of tracks out there we've done well at over the years, and Vegas is one of them," stated Wells. "It helps to have a good baseline to go back to, but just because you did well one year, doesn't guarantee you will the next."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars. Qualifying will conclude with one final session Saturday afternoon and first round of eliminations will be ran that evening. Final eliminations will conclude the event that evening. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
