Connolly Unhurt, But SKULL GEAR Pro Stock Chevy Cobalt Banged Up in Test Accident at Valdosta, Ga.

Dave Connolly's preseason test session came to an abrupt conclusion Tuesday afternoon when the SKULL GEAR Pro Stock Chevrolet Cobalt made a hard left-hand turn into the concrete barrier at South Georgia Motorsports Park in Valdosta.

According to crew chief Terry Adams, Connolly was doing a burnout when the
right tire grabbed. "It was just one of those things," said Adams. "When
the tire grabbed it sent him into the wall at about a 45-degree angle. The
impact tore up the front end pretty good.

"We hadn't made a full pass on the car yet. We were just working on the car."

Adams and the crew continued assessing the extent of damage later in the
day. As for a time table on repairs, he added: "I have no idea right now. I'
ll know something for sure Wednesday."
The first priority, Adams stressed, is to repair the car as quickly as
possible and get back to the track to continue preparations for the NHRA POWERade
Series season opener, Feb. 9-12, at Pomona, Calif. The incident came at a
time when the car was beginning to respond to Adams' tune-up changes, something
it hadn't done often since its first race in April.

"The car was working pretty well," Adams commented. "It came around and we' d made some big (tuning) gains. It wasn't nearly as finicky as it was before.

"We just have to fix it and keep on going."
