BAZEMORE DRIVES MATCO RAIL TO NO. 10 POSITION AT DALLAS, RECORDS QUICKEST RUN OF SATURDAY QUALIFYING
ENNIS, Texas (Sept. 22, 2007) -- Whit Bazemore drove his David Powers-owned Matco Tools dragster to low elapsed time of the day Saturday afternoon at Texas Motorplex. The veteran racer drove his dragster to a run of 4.586-seconds to clock the quickest pass of the day to finish 10th in the Top Fuel field.
Last night, the 20-time NHRA Funny Car winner powered his Matco Tools dragster to a pass of 4.595 seconds at 300.46 mph to finish 11th in the 16-car Top Fuel order. On Saturday's first qualifying effort, the Eugene, Ore. resident used a tune-up from crew chief Lee Beard to blaze to the quickest pass of the day. The veteran racer clocked a performance of 4.586 seconds at 326.56 mph to move to 10th in the field. Bazemore's Matco-backed rail overpowered the track and smoked the tires on its final qualifying attempt. He was the only Top Fuel driver to improve on Saturday as only two racers ran in the 4.5-second range (Brandon Bernstein).
"Qualifying here was good," Bazemore said. "We ran better than our results gave us. The team did an outstanding job and we had low E.T. of the first round Saturday, which is always important. It ended up being low E.T. of the day and that's great. We feel we have a fairly raceable car. We felt good at Memphis last weekend and had a freak parts breakage. That was a race we could have easily won and we feel that same way about this weekend. "
Bazemore will match-up against No. 7 qualifier Alan Bradshaw in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations which begin at 11 a.m. (CT) at Texas Motorplex. They have yet to meet this season.
