Troy Coughlin Looking Strong in Ennis
Jeg Coughlin entered the third round of qualifying with hopes of getting his Jeg's Cavalier into the field of sixteen for Sunday. Team Jeg's changed engines overnight in Jeg's Pro Stock machine hoping to gain an advantage in performance. The first run with the new engine fell just shy of putting the familiar yellow and black Jeg's Chevrolet into the field. Jeg ran a 6.93 second pass at 198.8 mph.
"The car launched really well out of the box," said Jeg. "It got a little light in second gear, but it recovered descent. The run felt better than the numbers that it produced."
Troy Coughlin continued to impress in his first pass of the day. Troy had a strong run in his Jeg's Mail Order machine with an e.t. of 6.88 seconds and a top speed of 200.7 mph.
"That was a pretty good run in the heat of the day," commented Troy. "If we can keep running that consistently we should have something to work with tomorrow."
It was a round of highs and lows for Team Jeg's in the fourth and final round of qualifying at the O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals. Reigning Winston Champion Jeg Coughlin Jr. did not qualify for only the eighth time in his young, yet accomplished career. Jeg ran a 6.94 second pass at 199.5 mph in the final qualifying session falling just over one-hundredth of a second short of making the quick sixteen.
"We threw everything we had at it," said Jeg. "Unfortunately we fell just short. We'll focus on making the other three Jeg's Mail Order machines go rounds tomorrow. I'll do what I can to support my brothers this weekend, and I'll wait for my chance next week in Las Vegas."
Troy Coughlin finished qualifying with yet another strong run in his Jeg's Mail Order Pro Stock Chevrolet. Troy blistered the quarter mile with a 6.90 second pass at 200.3 mph.
"It feels great to keep making consistent runs," commented Troy. "I had a couple of semifinal appearances at this track. We'll do what we can to put Jeg's into the winner's circle tomorrow."
Troy Coughlin had the quickest run of the final session and will have a Reading Pa. rematch against Tom Martino in the first round of the O'Reilly NHRA Fall Nationals.
