Sarver, White Cap Toyota Celica Funny Car expect quick times in Dallas.

Ennis, Texas (Oct. 10, 2002) - Bruce Sarver and the White Cap Toyota Celica Funny Car team will not only be looking for their first event victory of the season this weekend at the O'Reilly Fall Nationals, but they think their car could post a record time on the ultra-fast concrete Texas Motorplex track, Oct. 11-13.

"The White Cap Celica has been blindingly fast all year, but some strange problems have kept us from a win," said Sarver, of Bakersfield, Calif. "We had a record pass going at Chicago, and then the blower belt let go, which rarely happens. The Celica will turn some heads when it gets a perfect run, which we have yet to get so far this year."

Sarver and the White Cap Celica have been one of the top-five driver/car combinations in the Funny Car class since his first race at Englishtown in May. In 13 events, he has two top qualifying times (Topeka and Chicago) and three visits to the final round (Englishtown, Columbus and Seattle). Despite missing the first seven races of the season, Sarver is still 11th in overall points with 724.

In its first year of competition, the White Cap Toyota Celica Funny Car also produced three top-10 qualifying positions, and a final-round appearance in Gainesville, Fla., with Gary Scelzi piloting the first seven races. The two drivers' combined total of 1025 points is sixth best in the Funny Car class this year.

The White Cap Toyota Celica is the first manufacturer-backed import Funny Car in NHRA POWERade Series history. The car, which made its debut in February at Pomona, Calif., was developed using a production Toyota Celica GT-S as the baseline. The project, which began in the fall of 2001, was developed in conjunction with Swift Engineering, Inc., in San Clemente, Calif.
