DIXON & MILLER LITE DRAGSTER MAKE SECOND APPEARANCE AT TEXAS MOTORPLEX LOOKING TO KEEP PACE IN NHRA TOP FUEL STANDINGS

DALLAS (Oct. 19) - While he is currently ranked ninth in the most highly contested NHRA Top Fuel race in history, Larry Dixon and the Don Prudhomme-owned Miller Lite Top Fuel Dragster enter the O'Reilly Fall Nationals this weekend at Texas Motorplex with some very specific goals and with the same intensity he has all season.

“I'm going into this weekend hoping to win,” declares Dixon. “But there are some goals I would like to reach yet this season. We only have three races left and we would like to be able to run strong in each of those, and to finish the year solidly in the top 5 in the points. I think that is a very reachable goal for us. If we do really well in the next three and a couple of other guys stumble, anything can happen.”

One thing that could happen this weekend, which would not surprise Dixon, would be a new national elapsed time record. Dixon, former crew chief Dale Armstrong (now tuning Snake Racing teammate Ron Capps) and the Miller Lite Team, own the current E.T. mark of 4.486 seconds set during qualifying in Houston earlier this season (April 9).

“It's great having the national record and knowing that I'm driving the quickest car in the country, but while Dale tuned us to the E.T. record that weekend, (new crew chief) Dick LaHaie won the race. That's the reason why we are all out here is to win races. Dick has shown past success in Dallas and that's important. While Dale really knows how to create power, Dick manages it, and between the two of them I think we will run strong for the rest of the season while we begin to work on new things for the 2000 NHRA season.”

“Dallas definitely has the opportunity to produce some big numbers as it always does,” says Dixon.

“The track at Texas Motorplex is good enough to see a new record, it will just be a matter of how the weather plays into it. We saw (Gary) Scelzi set the national record there last year and ours could very well be broken this year.”

“There are about five teams out there that could come away with the record this weekend in Dallas - including ours.”
