Shelby Mustang Funny Car, jumped from seventh to fifth in the NHRA Countdown to 1 playoffs after a semifinal appearance in Charlotte. This weekend Tasca and his team look to take that momentum and continue their climb in the point standings as they head into Dallas.
CAN YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR PERFORMANCE IN CHARLOTTE AND WHAT THAT MEANT FOR YOUR TEAM? "It was a great day for our team. We did exactly what we needed to do and that was move up in the points. When the point leaders go out early, that is an opportunity that you've got to take advantage of, and fortunately we were able to do that. We moved from seventh to fifth in the points. We're still in position to keep our championship hopes alive. The pressure was on in Charlotte and will be on again in Dallas. I'm confident that we'll carry some momentum into Dallas."
YOU'VE MADE A JUMP IN THE COUNTDOWN STANDINGS. WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO TO CONTINUE THAT CLIMB? "We started the Countdown in the seventh position and we've moved into fifth after two races, so we're on an upward climb. We're going in the right direction. Dallas is going to be hot, but similar conditions to what we've seen. We will be able to capitalize on the data from Charlotte. I said you need to win two out of the six races in order to win the championship and pick up a couple semifinals and final rounds. So far, we haven't had any first round losses in the Countdown. We went to the semifinals in Charlotte. We need a win and that's the next step. I'm hopeful that we can continue to gain some ground in Dallas."
DOES IT HELP THAT YOU'RE GOING TO A RACE TRACK THIS WEEKEND THAT IS SIMILAR TO THE ONE YOU WERE JUST AT? "When you go from one race to the next and the conditions are similar, I think everybody is on the same page. There will be a lot of similarities between Charlotte and Dallas since both tracks are all concrete. The conditions will change again once we get to Reading, Las Vegas and Pomona, where you can see record setting conditions. We've got a great Shelby Mustang race car. We made some great runs. We made some runs where we knew what went wrong, so we know what we need to do to improve. I feel pretty confident that we'll improve in Dallas."
DO YOU FEEL LIKE THE PRESSURE IS ON NOW? "The pressure is on. We're not going to take Dallas lightly. We can't afford a bad race. We're in the fight but to stay in this fight, we've got to go rounds. We can't afford an early exit."
DO YOU FEEL CONFIDENT IN THE DATA YOU SECURED IN CHARLOTTE? "As a driver you get more confidence when you have a great car. Marc [Denner] and Chris [Cunningham] and the guys have given me a great car with this Ford BOSS 500 platform. It gives me a lot of confidence. There are some areas we need to work on. We need to improve our short times, from zero to 300 feet. Some of the cars out there are running quicker than us to the 330 mark. We have some real good ideas on what we need to do to improve that. We are going to try some different set-ups in Dallas to improve our short times but clearly, the car runs big speed. If we can improve the first 300 feet, our performance overall will improve. We're pretty optimistic about Dallas. We learned some things and stumbled across some things in Charlotte, give us a couple more runs at it and we're going to be able to make this Ford go even quicker."
