CHEVROLET NOTES AND QUOTES REVELL NATIONALS TEXAS MOTORPLEX NHRA WINSTON DRAG RACING SERIES SATURDAY, OCT. 24, 1998
PRO STOCK TRUCK -- CHEVY S-10
FIRST ROUND OF ELIMINATIONS:
JOHN LINGENFELTER, SUMMIT RACING EQUIPMENT CHEVY S-10, second in points, was eliminated in the first round by JERRY HAAS, CHEVY TRUCKS S-10 (7.695/174.38 for Haas, 7.770/174.58 for Lingenfelter). LARRY KOPP, ACCURATE BINDING/ARMA COATINGS/G-FORCE TRANSMISSIONS CHEVY S-10, advanced to the second round by defeating Dyno Don Nicholson (7.801/159.63 for Kopp, 7.924/170.55 for Nicholson). Kopp extended his points lead over Lingenfelter.
LINGENFELTER: "We didn't have enough clutch in that run. That's all it was." YOU'VE BEEN STRUGGLING THIS WEEKEND: "We put a new engine in that looked good on the dyno, but with the combination of the track being bad and being in the bad lane (left) when the air was good both times, it kept us off balance. We couldn't decide whether the engine was that bad or we were screwed up with the track." DID YOU COME IN HERE THINKING YOU COULD MAKE GROUND ON THE POINTS? "We tested at Gateway International Raceway on Monday and everything looked pretty good, but we didn't test with that particular engine, we tested with one that we thought wasn't quite that good. It showed good power on the dyno, but it isn't going down the track (too well.)" ARE YOU DEFLATED AT KOPP'S GAINING POINTS? "The race isn't over yet, he isn't out of range yet as long as he doesn't win it, which I don't think he's going to." WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO TO CATCH HIM? "We just have to keep working. You don't intentionally go to a race all screwed up. It isn't that we haven't been working hard, it just didn't come about. We track tested, we made five passes at Gateway. We have been working on the engines and that looked good. For whatever reason we didn't run good here."
The final four are all Chevy S-10s, as Larry Kopp, Brad Jeter, Jerry Haas and Bob Panella, Jr., advanced to the semifinals.
