White looking to finish year strong with 'western swing'
ENNIS, Texas - Just one week after winning the final Division 3 event in Indianapolis, Marc White and the Etterman Racing Team will head into Texas with their guns blazing for this weekend's O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol Syntec at the Texas Motorplex, just south of Dallas. White is working on a new tune-up that propelled him to a 5.64 second elapsed time in Reading, and hopes it will reach it's potential at the Motorplex, a track known for holding record setting performances.
White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., enters this event, part of the team's 'Western Swing' to close out the year. From Dallas, the team will head to Las Vegas for the final Division 7 race, in which they will be vying for the Division 3 Championship. The very next week, the team will close out the year at the AAA Auto Club Finals in Pomona, Calif. White and team will be shooting for the low 5.60's this weekend.
"From what I hear, the weather is going to be pretty good," said White. "The Texas Motorplex is definitely one of the fastest tracks in the country. You might see some .60's there, it all depends on the weather. Basically, we just want to run a number that is competitive with everybody else, and be in the hunt, so we have an opportunity to go rounds."
White hopes to use these last three races as a springboard into the 2002 season, where he hopes to ultimately make a run for the Federal Mogul World Championship.
"We've been working on a different tune-up that we have ran since Reading," stated White. "It seems to be showing a lot of promise. We'll keep working on it through Dallas, then Vegas and Pomona. We definitely have our eye on next year. Vegas is going to be an important race for us, so if we can do well in Dallas, we can have a fair amount of momentum going into that race."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the Federal Mogul Funny Cars with sessions at 1 and 5 p.m. Qualifying resumes on Saturday with one final session at 10:30 a.m., followed by first round of eliminations at 3 p.m. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
