Dixon Qualifies Seventh At Dallas

ENNIS, Texas. (Sept. 25, 2004) -- Larry Dixon saved his best qualifying run for last Saturday at the Texas Motorplex when the two-time defending NHRA POWERade Top Fuel champion blasted his Miller Lite dragster to a pass of 4.590 seconds at 320.97 mph to claim the No. 7 qualifying position.

Dixon, who entered the day qualified sixth, opened Saturday's qualifying in the Lone Star State by powering his Don Prudhomme-owned dragster to a performance of 4.651 at 313.44. Dixon then used a tune-up from crew chief Dick LaHaie to post his best run of qualifying when the Miller Lite car stopped the timers in 4.590 at 320.97. The last time Dixon qualified seventh (Aug. 21, 2004), he won the Memphis, Tenn. race to collect his 35th career NHRA victory.

The Indianapolis resident will face No. 10 qualifier David Baca in the opening round of Top Fuel eliminations, which kick off at 11 a.m. (CT) on Sunday. Dixon is 4-0 in his career against Baca.

ESPN2 will broadcast two hours of qualifying highlights from the O'Reilly Fall Nationals at 4 p.m. (ET) on Saturday, Sept. 25 and show two hours of final eliminations coverage at 11 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, Sept. 26.
