Larry Dixon enters the O'Reilly Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex in first place in the NHRA Full Throttle Top Fuel point standings. He leads second-place Cory McClenathan by 85 points entering the third of six races in the Countdown to 1 NHRA Playoffs.
"Wow, what a day for the Al-Anabi team in Charlotte on Sunday. It was a big day with a lot of big rounds, but we only got to enjoy it for a day. Our car hadn't even gotten back to the pit area, and the Al-Anabi team was already strategizing on Dallas. It's a special group of people, and things like that make me realize even more why they wanted to stay together as a group...as a whole team. I've never seen anything like it in the 20+ years I've been on the NHRA tour, and I'm honored to be a part of this Al-Anabi team.
"We had a great race day and a great points day at Charlotte, but there's still four races to go in the Countdown, and a lot can happen in four races. Cory (McClenathan) and I were on the same flight home Sunday night. He said we did a great job, but he's not giving up; I know they won't so we have to keep pressing.
"Dallas is another all-concrete track. We just left the latest one, and now we're going to the first one we ever had on the tour. The track is celebrating its 25th year in business, and hopefully it'll be a great race. The forecast looks like it'll be in the 90s which is similar to what we had last year at Ennis and last weekend in Charlotte. So you'd hope that some of what we did last weekend will apply to this weekend.
"As far as winning races in a season, winning 11 straight final rounds is something Alan (Johnson) and Jason (McCulloch) have already done so they aren't star struck by it. When Tony (Schumacher) won 15 races in a season, I really thought it was like a 20-year storm...something you may never see again in your lifetime again. Alan, Jason and the guys are trying to do it again. I've just won three races in a row for only the second time in my career so 11 wins in 11 final rounds is new territory for me. We are all thrilled with the way the weekend went in Charlotte but now it's full speed ahead on Dallas. We don't have provisional starts in NHRA so we have to qualify for this weekend's race and then take it one run at a time."
