DALLAS (Oct. 13) -- Miller Lite driver Larry Dixon maintained his NHRA Top Fuel POWERade points lead after his untimely departure in the quarterfinal round of competition of the O'Reilly Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex and now holds a 108 points margin (1,797-1,689) with two races remaining on the NHRA National Event schedule.

Dixon started his raceday by defeating Jim Cavalieri in the opening series of eliminations, covering the quarter-mile distance with a time of 4.614 seconds along with a speed of 320.05 mph to Cavalieri's time of 4.706 seconds 299.00 mph.

In the quarterfinals race against points rival Kenny Bernstein, Dixon's Miller Lite team gave a tremendous challenge in their match up, but had their desired outcome foiled after Bernstein reached the finish line first. The Miller Lite team ran a time of 4.662 seconds, 321.08 mph to his opponent's clocking of 4.602 seconds, 321.54 mph.

"It flat wore the clutch out and that's why the car slowed down," said Dixon. "(Crew Chief Dick) LaHaie and everybody on the team had the car set up to run a high 4.50.

"That's only happened to us a few times this season. It wasn't the most opportune time to have that happen, but it happened. We'll go on to Las Vegas and try to do a better job there."

The next NHRA National event will be the AC Delco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals on 'The Strip' at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway slated to run on Oct. 24-27.
