RaceRedi Motorsports Pontiac improves to 6.670 seconds on last run

ENNIS, Texas, Sept. 20, 2008 -- Justin Humphreys made his quickest qualifying run Saturday on his last attempt and the 6.670-second, 206.61-mph effort kept him 13th in the starting line-up for Sunday's O'Reilly Super Start Batteries Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex.

Frank Gugliotta, crew chief on the RaceRedi Motorsports Pontiac, worked with his crew and some members of Warren and Kurt Johnsons' teams to find the right combination. This is the second race with the Johnsons supplying motors to Humphreys, who won the Carolinas Nationals last Sunday.

"The last run was definitely better . . . and it came in the bad (atmospheric conditions) session," said Gugliotta. "We picked up our performance Saturday and that is good. And we learned something we can use in eliminations."

Humphreys began the day with a quarter-mile lap of 6.687 seconds at 205.72 mph. He races Allen Johnson (No. 4, 6.638 at 207.11 mph) in the opening round.
