Broken Transmission Stops Humphreys in Quarterfinals

DALLAS, Sept. 23, 2007 -- Justin Humphreys was bummed. He had a .003-second reaction time Sunday against Allen Johnson in the Pro Stock quarterfinals of the O'Reilly Fall Nationals and was four-hundredths of a second ahead when he put the car into second gear. But it didn't go into the gear and Humphreys shut off the RaceRedi Motorsports/Knoll-Gas Energy Pontiac GTO.

Johnson's win light came in 6.721 seconds at 205.51 mph while Humphreys coasted down in 13.645 seconds at 62.63 mph "I had him at the tree and then the transmission broke. It is very frustrating," Humphreys said. "That's the second time we've had a problem like that during eliminations.

"But we know we have a good race car now. We had our best qualifying finish (fifth) here and the car went down the track all four times during qualifying and once in the first round. Now we just need to get the gremlins out."
