ENNIS, Texas - An old adage in drag racing goes, "Enjoy your highs, because the sport can certainly humble you." Second year Federal Mogul Dragster pilot Joe Fuentes learned that first hand during the last Division 4 Federal Mogul Drag Racing Series event in Houston. There he qualified eighth, and lost in the first round, all on the heels of a career best outing at the season opening Winternationals in Pomona, Calif.

Undaunted, Fuentes, of Austin, Texas, looks to turn things around for the better at this upcoming weekend's Division 4 race at the Texas Motorplex, just south of Dallas. The young team hopes to couple it's competitive drive and reunion with veteran tuner Ora Vasquez into success this weekend.

"Fortunately, our tuner Ora Vasquez can make it this weekend," said Fuentes. "We had trouble figuring out how to make the car not smoke the tires in cold weather. We're just going to let Ora figure it out this weekend if it gets cold again. We sure didn't. We are pretty confident that if we can get the car down the track we will do pretty good. With Ora back we should be able to run like we did in Pomona. I'm pumped."

With the assistance of Vasquez, Fuentes ran a career best elapsed time and mph of 5.44 at 257 mph in Pomona. Fuentes feels if the conditions are right, he might be able to duplicate that on the Motorplex's all concrete racing surface, or even better it.

"It's really hard to predict what we are going to run, because it's pretty much based on the weather," Fuentes commented. "We have been running the beadlock type wheels which are a little bit more aggressive, and that created a problem in Houston. We might try the inner liner type rims in Dallas, it really just depends on how things go. We've ran .40's before, so if we hook up, we should again."

Qualifying begins at 4 p.m. on Friday for the Federal Mogul Dragsters, with two more sessions following on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
