BECKMAN LANDS IN NO. 7 IN DALLAS QUALIFYING
ENNIS, Texas (Sept. 25, 2010) - "Fast" Jack Beckman qualified the Valvoline/Mail Terminal Services Dodge Charger in No. 7 for the 25th annual NHRA Fall Nationals at Texas Motorplex, recording a 4.132-second pass at 305.01 mph in the third and final round of qualifying.
The third round of qualifying resumed after a five-hour rain delay with only three pairs of cars having recording times, and Beckman was in the third-from-last-pair, benefiting from cooler conditions than those on Friday, in which track temperatures reached 140 degrees. The fourth round of qualifying was cancelled.
Beckman's other laps this weekend were a 4.441/251.34 (No. 4) and a 4.225/293.47 (No. 6). He will face Jim Head in the opening round of Sunday's eliminations.
"I don't want to put the cart in front of the horse, and this is a testament to my Valvoline/MTS Dodge team completely separate from me," said Beckman, who is second in the Countdown to the Championship point standings, entering the event just four points behind leader John Force. "If this is supposed to be getting more pressure-packed, I'm actually having more fun.
"And I think it's the faith I've got in these Valvoline/MTS guys. We never tried to swing for the fences. We picked away because of the changes we had made after Indy to our chassis and our clutch. We don't want to throw away any runs being too aggressive.
"So, I think we're playing it smart and just nibbling away at the tune-up, and so far the car is showing us it's liking what we're doing to it. And I just can't wait for Sundays on any race weekend.
"I know a lot of people have butterflies, as the playoffs are so important, and there's a lot of pressure. And I'm not saying I'm not nervous, but I'm so excited to get into this car on Sundays, because that's when this team is earning its points,"
