Will looks for Texas Motorplex winner's circle
ENNIS, Texas. (September 19, 2006) -- After rain forced the postponement of the Toyo Tires Nationals for two weeks, the Lone Star State is now home for the 21st annual NHRA O'Reilly Fall Nationals, which unfolds for the professional classes this weekend, from September 22 to the 24th.
Hillary Will makes her first regular appearance as a professional Top Fuel pilot on the quick and fast quarter-mile at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas, just outside Dallas. The rookie driver looks to put her KB Racing LLC-owned, Kalitta Motorsports-managed dragster in the winner's circle.
"I tested in Dallas for two days last year, so with the knowledge I gained of Billy Meyer's all-concrete quarter mile, and my team's previous racing experience there, I expect our KB Racing Top Fuel team to do well this weekend," said Will. "I'm itching to get my first 4.40 of the year and after watching Mother Nature halt activities at Reading (Pa.), I'm fired up to get things done at Dallas."
Because of the postponement of the 22nd running of the NHRA Toyo Tires Nationals, Will continues to hold the ninth position in the NHRA POWERade Top Fuel point standings. With five races still remaining on the 2006 schedule, the 26-year-old Will, who grew up in Northern California and now calls Ypsilanti, Mich., home, hopes the O'Reilly Fall Nationals provides the opportunity to move higher in the point battle. She is only 28 points out of eighth and 134 points behind seventh.
A final note: Will and her KB Racing LLC team remain in the hunt for the wild card position in the 22nd annual Budweiser Shootout which will be held at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Saturday, October 28. The Budweiser Shootout, a special race-within-a- race, assures the top seven drivers in points earned a spot in the Shootout and then the eight drivers who qualify in positions eight through 15 will participate in a special lottery drawing for the final spot. The lottery drawing will be held the Thursday prior to the running of the Budweiser Shootout. Will currently is in the 11th position. The winner of the Shootout will go home with $100,000 of Budweiser's money.
