Anderson to Carry Harley Davidson Colors in Dallas
DALLAS (Oct. 14) -- NHRA Pro Stock driver Greg Anderson will be sporting a new sponsor when the National Hot Rod Association rolls into Dallas next weekend for the O'Reilly Fall Nationals. Texas Harley Davidson has announced that they will sponsor Anderson and his Oldsmobile Cutlass Pro Stock for the four-day drag racing event at the Texas Motorplex.
With locations in Bedford, Grand Prairie and Waco, Texas Harley Davidson is family owned by Don Smith and his sons and has been in business for 32 years. Smith, an admirer of Anderson, feels that the sponsorship of Anderson relates well to his Harley Davidson customers.
"We feel that Greg is due to win one of these national events," said Smith. "He has worked hard for many years to get to this level and Harley Davidson has also worked hard to get to our current level of success. Greg is a stick-to-it till you make it-happen kind of guy, just like many of our customers. We value that kind of work ethic. It's how we got to where we are today."
While running Mark Pawuk's backup car in Memphis, Anderson failed to make the 16-car field after the number of qualifying runs were shortened due to rain. "If we would have had another run in Memphis we would have made the field," said Anderson. "Both Mark and I missed the tune-up on the carburetors due to the high humidity. I'm not holding my head down though, I learned a lot Sunday morning and we can apply that information at another event."
This event will be Anderson's third trip to the Dallas track. He failed to qualify for the event in 1998 and in the spring of 1999, Anderson qualified eighth loosing to his former boss, Warren Johnson, in the second elimination round by a hundredth of a second.
"I'm looking forward to Texas," said Anderson. "We've been on the track before and I should be able to use some of the information we gained in the spring. The weather will be a little cooler but it shouldn't be a big difference. Plus, I would like to bring home a win for Don and his Texas Harley Davidson and who knows, maybe he's the good luck I need. The last time he sponsored a Pro Stock car, they won the whole event."
Smith is a long-time supporter and participant of the NHRA. He has sponsored several cars over the years and he races his own NHRA Pro Stock truck on the national circuit. The last time Texas Harley Davidson sponsored a car in Dallas was in 1995 with driver Kurt Johnson who captured the victory.
The 14th Annual O'Reilly Fall Nationals is scheduled for Oct. 21-24,1999. For more information regarding times and ticket prices call the Motorplex at (972) 878-2641
