Optimistic on Team's Improvements at the Track
Spartanburg, S.C. (September 21, 2010) - Victory is sweet, and it was for Bobby Labonte when he won the 1999 spring race at Dover International Speedway. Returning this weekend with Phoenix Racing and the No. 09 Phoenix Construction Chevrolet, Labonte will be ready for Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup AAA 400 event at the famed "Monster Mile."
Labonte is one of only 12 drivers that have won this race from the pole position. He is also one of seven active drivers who had their first NASCAR Sprint Cup start at Dover. With over 13,513 laps at Dover, Labonte is ready for a solid finish.
Labonte will be making his 37th career start this weekend at Dover. He has one win, 11 top-five and 14 top-10 finishes at Dover. With an average start of 16th and an average finish of 17th-place, the weekend is looking positive.
Comments from Bobby Labonte on Dover International Speedway:
"Dover is a really special place for me. This is where I had my first NASCAR Sprint Cup start back in 1991. We unfortunately had an engine problem early on in that race, but it was still a very special time and race for me.
"This track is a lot of fun to race at. This is one of the two concrete tracks on the schedule. It is a really fast track and really hard to pass on. It's a lot like Bristol. You just need to be careful that you don't get yourself caught up in another person's mistake.
"I'm optimistic this weekend. We're running a car with a Hendrick built engine. We should be pretty strong under the hood. The guys are working hard to prepare the car for this weekend too. We should have a good run on Sunday." - 30 -
