TASCA VS. WORSHAM IN FIRST ROUND OF NHRA FALL NATIONALS
ENNIS, Texas (Sept. 20, 2008) -- Bob Tasca III and the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang team saved the best for last in terms of qualifying for the NHRA Fall Nationals in Texas. The rookie team put together their quickest run of the weekend during the fourth and final run on Saturday, earning the No. 14 qualifying position for Sunday's race.
"Sometimes you forget that we're a new team, and to get to where we are without testing and to be qualifying and running as good as any car out here on Saturday for many weeks in a row is a real tribute to Chris [Cunningham, crew chief] and the guys on my team," said Tasca.
While battling on Saturday to earn a spot in the big show the past few weeks, Tasca credits his team, led by Crew Chief Chris Cunningham, for being able to put together solid runs and performing well in qualifying when the time comes to go or go home.
"We've been struggling with balancing the clutch with the engine, and Chris came in this morning and said that he needed to go in a different direction, and that he needed to try something new," said the Rookie-of-the-Year candidate. "Usually, that isn't something that you like to do during a race weekend, but we've got no choice with the testing ban. And man, did he go in the right direction."
Tasca will face Del Worsham in the first round of eliminations on Sunday, marking the fourth time the two have met in competition this season. Tasca has one win against Worsham, which he earned just four races ago in Brainerd, Minn.
"I really feel that the direction that we've made with the car is going to improve our performance on Sunday," said Tasca. "I'm just thrilled for my guys on the team. You don't realize just how hard it is to get into this show, and to have our performance where it was today, was just really exciting for us and the shows the character of our team and our determination to win. I'm just really excited and amped up about racing on Sunday."
