Clermont, IN ---Cruz Pedregon and the Advance Auto Parts Racing Team literally felt the heat last week during their two-day test session at Indianapolis Raceway Park. With temperatures rising well into the nineties each day, the team made a few morning passes, worked their way through the early afternoon, and resumed testing early evenings as the track cooled. With much success during testing, the Advance Auto Parts Racing Team is tuned-up for the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.
Pedregon's best run was on Wednesday evening with an elapsed time of 4.931 at a speed of 300.60 mph. Other recorded times include a 5.067 e.t. at 267.93 mph on Tuesday and a 5.028 e.t. at 260.49 mph on Wednesday morning.
"We were able to focus in on a few things we've discovered at the last couple of events," commented Pedregon. "We've learned something new at each race and this was our chance to make some experimental changes to see what type of reading we would get. We are confident going into the U.S. Nationals and will be pushing our limits to make sure our car is fast and competitive. Testing was important to us and we will be ready for the largest event of the year."
The Advance Auto Parts Racing Team will return to IRP the week of August 28th through September 2sr to compete at the six day event, where Pedregon hopes to win his fourth U.S. Nationals championship title. Winning the Indy event in 1992, 1994, and 1995, Pedregon is confident that the Advance Auto Parts Funny Car is quick enough to take him into Winner's Circle on Monday afternoon.
The Mac Tools U.S. Nationals marks the largest event on the NHRA Drag Racing tour. Professional qualifying sessions will begin on Friday, August 30th continuing through Sunday, September 1st. Two specialty races (race within a race) will be held this weekend as well. On Saturday, NHRA will host the K&N Filters Pro Bike Clash. Sunday will feature the Budweiser Funny Car Shootout. All Final Elimination rounds will begin Monday, September 2nd at 10:30 am.
