BARTONE RACES HIGHT FIRST ROUND

COMMERCE, Ga. (April 28) -- Tony Bartone will take his Lucas Oil Chevrolet Monte Carlo Funny Car into eliminations at the 27th annual Summit Racing Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway from the No. 15 position and will race Robert Hight on Sunday.

His run of 4.792 seconds will stand as his best run of the weekend and the Jim Dunn-led team is happy about their participation in Sunday's events. On Saturday, they had some difficulty negotiating the slippery quarter-mile and what they learned today will enable them in their decision making process for raceday.

"Our car runs very good from the 330 mark on the track to the finish line," said a smiling Bartone. "What we're trying to work on is at hit of the throttle -- the first 15 to 20 feet. We're having trouble getting the car up on the tire posting times we would be happy with. Today we were experimenting with some different clutch setups in trying to get our numbers better.

"Funny Car racing in the NHRA has become very, very competitive. We qualified in the 15th position with a 4.792 and if we would have run a 4.781 that would have moved us up to five positions. There's a lot of good cars that didn't qualify again to explain the competitiveness of the sport. So, it's an honor to be in the field and racing on Sunday. We'll have to put on our game face for tomorrow and try to get some win lights for our Lucas Oil team."
