Dixon and The Miller Lite Dragster qualify No. 2 after rainy first day at Southern Nationals.
ATLANTA, GA. (May 2)- Late evening rain limited NHRA POWERade Defending Champion Larry Dixon and the Miller Lite team to only one pass Friday, as his time of 4.644 seconds (322.50mph) qualified him 2nd at the 23rd Annual Mac Tools Thunder Valley Nationals.
Even though rain would prohibit a second round of qualifying, Dixon felt good about his one and only run. "We qualified, I'll sleep well tonight," Dixon said. "I drove the car once down the track without any problems, and we qualified number two. It was a good day."
Good for Dixon and the Miller Lite Snake Racing Dragster, bad for those who anxiously awaited a second round. The first round of Top Fuel qualifying concluded just after 5:30 Friday evening, and after a slight rain, NHRA officials held the track. Moments later out came the jet dryers and a ray of hope of a round two. But that ray of hope turned to bolts of lightning and the conclusion of Friday qualifying.
Dixon and the Snake Racing dragster won this event last year, qualifying fifth, but ending the weekend by defeating Doug Herbert, with a time of 4.586 seconds, and winning the Southern Nationals title. With today's reaction time of .045 seconds and a No.2 qualifying position, the Miller Lite team is prepared to keep the title.
