HERBERT MAKES FINAL ROUND IN ATLANTA
Commerce, Ga., (April 29, 2007) -- Doug Herbert and the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel team made their way through the field at the NHRA Southern Nationals, making their first final round appearance of the season.
Facing Larry Dixon in round one, both drivers went through the quarter-mile in 4.57 seconds. Herbert took the first round win by crossing the finish line first, thanks to a reaction time of .064 seconds to Dixon's .081.
In the second round, Herbert and Hillary Will squared off to determine who would advance to the semifinal round. A foul by Will ushered Herbert into semifinal action.
The semifinals brought Bob Vandergriff to the starting line opposite Herbert and the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster. Herbert ran a solid 4.72 seconds and advanced to the final round while Vandergriff succumbed to tire smoke.
Final round action placed Herbert against Brandon Bernstein, winner of the last national event in Las Vegas. With a reaction time of .068 seconds, Herbert was off the line first. By the end of the quarter mile, Bernstein's 4.66 second pass put him across the finish line just a half car length ahead of Herbert's 4.71 second pass.
"We're disappointed that we didn't get the win," said Herbert, "but at the same time we're really happy with our performance. I've been talking all weekend about the hard work that has gone into the car since we left Las Vegas, and this proves it.
"It's no secret we've struggled since the beginning of the season, and being able to start turning it around in Atlanta, so close to home, is great. This is just the beginning. We're ready to start making our way toward the Championship, and we plan on this being the first of several final round appearances for the Snap-on Tools Top Fuel dragster."
