Commerce, Ga., May 16, 2004 - Final Elimination's were completed today for the NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Ga.

Former Funny Car champion Cruz Pedregon came into today's eliminator in the 14th spot and raced Tim Wilkerson in round one of competition. Pedregon made a great move off the starting line but fell just short at the finish line, crossing the stripe with an elapsed time of 4.906 seconds at 309.77 mph to Wilkerson's elapsed time of 4.854 seconds at 317.57 mph.

"That was a good run for us," said Pedregon. "I had the lead and I didn't see him until the car spun the tires a little bit down track and he just nosed us out for the win.

"The car wasn't acting right all weekend," added Pedregon. "The adjustment was off on the wheelie bar and we didn't find the problem until yesterday. We lost a couple of runs because of it but we recovered nicely. The race could've gone either way - we just fell a little short. But, we're just a few days from getting back on the track in Joliet, so we're looking forward to continuing where we left off today."

Pedregon remains 11th in the NHRA POWERade Funny Car points standings, just 68 points out of the top-10.

The next event for the Advance Auto Parts racing team is the NHRA Route 66 Nationals at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill., on May 21-23.
