Troy Misses the Cut

Troy Coughlin began the final day of qualifying looking to improve from the No. 20 position at his hometown track.

In the third qualifying session the Jeg's Mail Order Chevy Cavalier was on the aggressive side. The car launched from the starting line and headed for the center line. Knowing how important it was to make a solid run Coughlin kept his leg in it as long as he could. He tried to return to the center of the groove. When the car didn't respond he pushed the clutch in and coasted to the finish line.

"We all knew how important it was to make a good run during the third session," said Coughlin. "The threat of more bad weather was on our minds and we felt like we might not get another shot at the track."

In the final session Coughlin posted a run of 6.923 at 199.46 mph. The run wasn't enough to break into the field.

"It's disappointing to not qualify at your hometown race that's for sure," said Coughlin. "We just made some errors this weekend that kept us from racing on Sunday."
