Team Jeg's looking to make noise in homecoming.
Each of the 23 Races that make up the POWERade NHRA Drag Racing Series are important to each and every competitor that takes on the task of competing week in and week out in quest for the title of "Champion." However, every once in a while a race comes along that may mean a little bit more to one team or another. For some drivers it may be a lucrative history at an event, for others it may be the fans. Most drivers would agree that they have at least one race that is special to them. A place where the thrill of victory becomes just a touch sweeter. For Team Jeg's driver's Jeg and Troy Coughlin, that one race could possibly be the Pontiac Excitement Nationals in Columbus, Ohio. Jeg won his first ever National Event in Super Gas at this race in 1991. For Troy Coughlin, National Trail Raceway is where he competed in his first Pro Stock final in 1997.
"It's always great to come home to race in Columbus," said Jeg. "We have a ton of support from our family, friends and our fellow associates from Jeg's Mail Order who share in the weekend with us. It's an exciting weekend for all of us, and we look forward to the opportunity to race in front of such a spectacular home town crowd. The fans that come out to National Trail are very knowledgeable and have a real love for drag racing. It's a real rush to be able to compete in our own back yard"
The Pontiac Excitement Nationals is also special for Team Jeg's given the fact that the race weekend falls upon Father's Day.
"My brothers and I have spent many a Father's Day at the races with our dad," recalled Troy. "It's great that we can continue to share that experience not only with him, but with our children as well. It's not only an exciting weekend for us; many of the Team Jeg's crew members have roots in Central Ohio as well. It's nice they can share a weekend of racing with their family and friends. National Trail Raceway has provided a lot of great memories for Team Jeg's. Hopefully we will be able to add to those memories when we roll our Jeg's Mail Order machines in battle this weekend."
Jeg and Troy are fifth and thirteenth respectively in the POWERade Championship point standings. Both drivers look to improve when they roll their Jeg's Mail Order Chevrolet Cavaliers into action this weekend.
