White looking to close Division 3 season with a win.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Just as the saying goes, 'he who laughs last laughs loudest,' NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car pilot Marc White wants to win this weekend's Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio. Despite losing the Division 3 Championship to Chuck Cheeseman, White and the Etterman Racing Team would love nothing more than to have the last win of the year to close the 2002 season.
White, from Glendale Heights, Ill., feels a bit frustrated that the team has not been able to fare better during their last few outings. Nevertheless, White plans to focus that frustration this weekend and hopes to turn the corner this weekend.
"We had a rod break the first run in Reading," said White. "That put us behind the eight ball right off the bat. We just want to go out there and run hard on what should be a good track. We've always ran pretty good at Columbus, so we hope this weekend is no exception. We really need a good solid weekend with no major problems. We're not down, it just wouldn't hurt our feelings any to have no problems for a race."
White feels with cooler conditions setting in, national event caliber times could be in store for this weekend.
"We ran good here at the national," stated White. "The track should be pretty good, and hopefully we'll get some good air. It will be a tough race. Chucky is always tough, and now you have some of the young guys like Jeff Craig and Todd Veney stepping up. It will be interesting."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions following on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
