Columbus, Ohio (June 17) - At the close of qualifying at the 36th Annual Pontiac Excitement Nationals, Brian "Lump" Self has placed his Roof-Tec Chevrolet S-10 in the sixth position on the Pro Stock Truck eliminations ladder. Lump came to Columbus with the mindset to try new and different things. His experimentation would pay off when in the fourth session of qualifying Self would run a 7.619 / 176.07 mph.

"We have tried a different gear ratio in this truck on every run," said Self. "Each run we have tried a different set-up. We are determined to learn what this truck wants, and what works at this racetrack.

"Here at the racetrack is the only place where you really can test, because you have all the trucks here. You can go and test alone, but it is not the same. You don't have the track preparation or a truck in the other lane. That really makes a difference.

"So we are using qualifying to test some things that we have wanted to try for a long time. We are sucking on the back half. So we have tried different gear ratios on each run, and will keep try things until we are satisfied. We need to find what works best on raceday on this racetrack. Once we know what works best, then we can set up the truck to go some rounds tomorrow.

"I have a plan for tomorrow. My plan is to leave first, and turn on the win light. Then repeat that a few more times until we find the winner's circle. Sounds like a good plan to me!"

Eliminations at the 36th Annual Pontiac Excitement Nationals take place on Sunday June 18, at 11:00AM EST.
