Jeg Looks For Success At Home Track
The Pontiac Excitement Nationals at National Trail Raceway is the 10th stop on the 23-event NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series schedule. This event has always been special for Jeg Coughlin, Jr. for a number of reasons.
Coughlin scored his first NHRA national event win in Super Gas at this race in 1990 on Father's Day at the age of 19. The 33-year-old second-generation driver has many fond memories that surround the upcoming event.
"My earliest memories are of my dad racing and helping out where ever we could with my brothers," explained Jeg. "I started racing at National Trail Raceway during a Wednesday night program the track had in one of my brothers street cars while they (John, Troy & Mike) were racing in Super Gas and Super Comp. I have done everything from ride on my bike from pit-to-pit asking for spark plugs to win national events at this track. When I start to get close to the track and drive thru the gate my mind starts replaying all of the great memories I have. I instantly start to smile and get excited to get behind the wheel."
The two-time NHRA Pro Stock champion has scored three of his 45 NHRA national event wins at National Trail Raceway. All three wins have come from three different competition classes within the NHRA. Coughlin won in Super Gas (1990), Super Stock (1996) and Pro Stock (1998).
"We are looking forward to having a strong showing in front of our hometown crowd again this year," commented Coughlin. "We always have a lot of fans in our corner at this event and that always makes you work harder. The support we get from our local fans, friends, family and our associates at Jeg's and their families is second to none. Our entire group has been working extremely hard to get the yellow and black Jeg's Mail Order colors back into the winner's circle and I can't think of a better place to do it than National Trail Raceway."
