V-Rods Win in Columbus Ohio
06/14/04 SANTA FE SPRINGS The Screamin' Eagle / Vance & Hines race team was a force to be reckoned with in Ohio last weekend. Stormy weather or not they were there to compete and throughout the event remained a leader, setting new track records and capturing the overall win. Andrew Hines retains his number 1 position in the points standing after the 40th annual Pontiac Excitement NHRA Nationals with 466 points and teammate GT Tonglet stands strong in the number 3 position with 336 points.
The first day of qualifying on Friday was delayed by rain, but the bikes were able to get two passes in. Andrew held the number 1 qualifying position and set a new track et record with 7.140 with GT following closely with a 7.206. Saturday's qualifying was another chance for the Screamin' Eagle / Vance & Hines racers to show all in attendance what they are made of. GT brought the speed to the track with a 7.148 et / 191.51 mph pass and teammate Andrew Hines set another elapsed time track record producing a 7.081 et / 189.39 mph pass.
As racing commenced on Sunday's eliminations, both of the V-Rod riders faced some serious competition. Despite his competitors cutting perfect lights, Andrew was able to run strong throughout the eliminations all the way to the finals. GT won his first round of eliminations and faced Geno Scali in the second round. Geno got the hole shot and it looked like GT reeled him in at the end, but Geno held on and advanced to race Andrew. Andrew was able to muscle past Geno to make it to the finals to race Steve Johnson.
In the finals, Andrew cut a .035 off the tree and never looked back against Johnson. Andrew lead Harley® to the second win of the season with a 7.131 et / 185.56 mph run against Johnson's 7.447 et / 180.16 mph run.
The Screamin' Eagle / Vance & Hines team currently holds the number 1 and 3 position in the Pro Stock Bike Ladder and show no signs of slowing up any time soon. Stay tuned to see what happens at the next event in Englishtown, NJ June 17-20.
